As temperatures rise annually due to climate change, environmental preservation becomes more crucial to our society.  Plant life, particularly forest and foliage, is the key to increasing the amount of oxygen, lessening the level of carbon dioxide, and improving the overall air quality of the atmosphere resulting in a much cooler climate and a healthier ecosystem.  If everyone is willing to do their part in conserving our environment, climate change and environmental degradation can be mitigated by preserving plant life.

To promote greater environmental responsibility, Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation (MVC) together with Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (MWSI) and the ethnic tribe of Dumagats, participated in the bi-annual Tree Planting Program last July 15 and October 7 at the Ipo Dam Watershed in Norzagaray, Bulacan.

Representatives from Maynilad started the program with an orientation on how to properly handle the tree seedlings.  Afterwards, the volunteers embarked on a 30-minute boat ride to reach the planting site.  A total of 200 seedlings of various varieties were planted at the end of the activity.  Then, the volunteers had lunch at the Maynilad Office.

In religiously participating in this event, MVC upholds its strong commitment to environmental protection and to corporate social responsibility (CSR) practice.  Although it’s a small step, the continuous reforestation in our community could alleviate the effect of the alarming rate of global forest denudation.  As Richard Rogers, a Pritzker Prize-winner and leading British architect, said, “The only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved.”
