As part of Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation’s (MVC’s) initiative towards strengthening its safety practices and emergency preparedness, the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Section of Iligan Plant conducted a safety seminar at MVC’s Cebu Depot. Engr. Edilberto L. Bayor, EHS Specialist, facilitated the said seminar last July 29 at Cebu Depot in Mandaue City. The one-day seminar covered a comprehensive discussion on three main areas – emergency preparedness and response (EPR), self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) donning and chlorine containment.
Lectures and exercises were conducted to help the participants develop and strengthen their emergency response unit, as well as to familiarize all personnel, including security guards, haulers and truckers, on the emergency procedures in chlorine handling. The activity also served as a venue to train employees on the proper use and donning of an EPR equipment like SCBA.
The program began with a welcome message from the Regional Sales Manager of the Cebu Depot, Mr. Rodney Mari B. Arquiza. It was followed by an EPR orientation which focused on the importance of having an EPR unit. Furthermore, a workshop was conducted to identify and designate different members of the EPR unit, followed by the SCBA donning orientation and exercises. In the afternoon, participants had a drill on the proper use of chlorine kits in case of leaks in chlorine cylinders. Also, an earthquake drill was done to supplement EPR lectures.
EHS-Iligan aims to replicate this activity in all MVC depots to ensure top-of-the-line preparedness in the face of emergencies and dangers.
