Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation’s (MVC) President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mr. Edwin Ll. Umali, together with the other benefactors, spearheaded the turnover ceremony of the new Health Center located at St. Michael’s Heights, Tonggo, Bur-un, Iligan City last July 20. This event was witnessed by the representatives from the local government unit, non-government organization and residents in the area. Particularly, Barangay Councilors Robert Razo and Ella Emnase of Brgy. Buru-un, Dr. Cherlina Cañaveral of the Department of Health (DOH) and Sr. Ma. Betsy B. España of the Iligan Community Builders Foundation, Inc. (ICBFI) were in attendance.

During her message, Sr. Betsy España said, “MVC has not just given them a center but a dream come true.” It was noted that for so many years the residents had been longing to have their own center in the community. “Gone are the days that they will have to travel or walk kilometres just to seek medication and health assistance especially during emergency situations”, Sr. Betsy added.

A simultaneous free clinic was also conducted for the residents of the area. With the assistance of the volunteering doctors from Iligan City Health Center and MVC Retainer Physician, Dr. Josie Marie S. Grageda, maintenance medicines and vitamins were distributed after the residents’ check-up.

Implemented by MVC’s Industrial Peace Council (IPC) through its Committee on Community Concerns, this project is also a tri-partite coordination between MVC, who provided the construction of the building; the IBCFI, who donated the land; and Sangguniang Barangay ng Buru-un, who would distribute the funds for manpower and medicines.
