A chemical spill can cause detrimental and irreversible damage to the quality, health and environment if not contained with speed and precision. It is with this sentiment that the Manufacturing Department has emphasized emergency preparedness and response (EPR) thru spill drills to strengthen the roles of each individual personnel.
Last December 10-12, the three-day drills were conducted with the simulation of accidents causing damage to quality operation, personnel and environment. The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Section was deployed to aid in the refresher exercise and to determine which areas of the drills needed improvement.
Among those who took part in the exercise were Ion Exchange Membrane (IEM) 1 & 2, Liquid Chlorine Plant (LCP), and Utilities Operators & Area Supervisors as they have the responsibility over the emergency plan and action deployed in case of an emergency. Also incorporated in the exercise is the proper procedure in donning a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Each drill was capped with an evaluation on the process of implementation vis-a-vis the EPR procedures, as well as the discussion on improvements.
