On November 2019, Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation (MVC) Iligan Plant has completed the construction and commissioning exercises of its new sodium hypochlorite (hypo) plant.
The hypo plant, on which construction began in September 2019, has replaced the waste absorption process of the Ion Exchange Membrane (IEM) – 2 and will use sodium hydroxide, generating sodium hypochlorite or commonly known as bleach, instead of using lime for the process.
Besides reducing the waste effluent to the sludge pond, the new plant will also supply the increasing demand of sodium hypochlorite in the market. The system is also equipped with an emergency caustic tank to prevent chlorine pollution during total power outage.
