“Great things start with a small beginning.”

This was emphasized by FO2 Mark Anthony M. Omococ, staff from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Iligan and Resource Person during the Certificate of Competency for Fire Suppression Training for Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation’s (MVC’s) Fire Brigade Team.

The modules integrated in the training program included: Brief History of the BFP; Legal Mandate of BFP; Advance Fire Safety and Fire Fighting Skills; Fire Extinguishment Theory; Fire Fighting Apparatus, Tools and Equipment; The Basic Principles of Fire Fighting; and Fire Suppression and Control.

Appreciation of the different modules was evaluated through written examination, and actual demonstration on rolling and unrolling methods of fire hose, and hose connection. Actual firefighting drills using the different firefighting equipment that would test the physical agility and endurance of the participants, as well as application of the firefighting techniques, culminated the training course.

The trainings were divided into two schedules, February 8 – 10 and February 20 – 22 for Batch 1 and Batch 2, respectively.  A total of 28 participants were able to complete the course requirements as mandated by Republic Act 9514, known as Revised Fire Code of the Philippines.

Other staff from BFP-Iligan, namely, SFO2 Allan Pabelic, FO1 Joanne M. Gasal, and SFO2 Julieto D. Parami also imparted their skills and expertise during the training.

FO2 Omococ further expounded that with this training, MVC’S Fire Brigade Team will be able to enhance their skills and capabilities in fire prevention and control, thus, they may able to extend these learning’s not only in the Plant, but also to their respective communities in their own little ways.
