Staying true to its advocacy in maintaining the quality of the environment, and in line with the International Coastal Cleanup Month Celebration, Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation (MVC) Iligan once again embarked on freeing the nearby coast of trash and litter. The main cleanup site is the coastal area along Purok 13 Timoga, Bur-un, on which MVC Pier is also situated.
Despite the advance warning from Iligan City Disaster Risks Reduction and Management Office (ICDRRMO) with the arrival of Super Typhoon Ompong, 36 volunteers from MVC Iligan and the contractors pushed through with the cleanup last September 15. The participants picked up trash, segregated the waste and placed them accordingly into separate labeled sacks. Residents from Purok 13 also joined in cleaning up the coast.
The Environment, Health, & Safety (EHS) Section, who spearheaded the activity, expressed their hope that the cleanup will inspire sustainable actions to prevent garbage from ending up in the seas. According to EHS Specialist Edilberto L. Bayor, the activity is also a reminder that everyone is a custodian of the planet and part of making the world a better place to live in.
