Employees and contractors of Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation (MVC) Iligan Plant took part in the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) held last August 8. This activity is initiated quarterly by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The campaign aims to educate the public on the importance of preparedness against earthquake hazards and to strengthen the coordination with NDRRMC-member agencies and private sector partners. For MVC, the drill also serves as a way to evaluate the effectiveness of the company’s emergency response plans and procedures in relation to earthquake scenarios.
The participants throughout the Iligan Plant performed the duck, cover and hold at the start of the drill which was signaled by the plant-wide emergency siren. Afterwards, they proceeded to the nearest evacuation areas: Victor and Patro park for Administration Building occupants and designated temporary staging areas near other buildings and structures in MVC. Inspection of the buildings was conducted as part of the drill by the Civil and Fabrication Supervisor Alan G. Barinque, along with an evaluation of the activity by the EHS Section. The participants returned to their respective areas once everything was declared safe and in order.
Mr. Edilberto L. Bayor, EHS Officer, expressed his gratitude to the employees and contractors of MVC who participated and contributed to the success of the activity. Several inputs on the improvement of the emergency response were also gathered. He stated that continued involvement in succeeding related activities will further fortify the capacity of MVC personnel to respond to such emergencies, especially that the NSED comes right on the heels of recent powerful tremors which were experienced in many parts of Mindanao.
