Summer is a hectic period for Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation (MVC) who has been gearing up for their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities intended for the company’s neighboring communities. Spearheaded by the Committee on Community Concerns under the Industrial Peace Council (IPC), and in coordination with the Human Resources Department (HRD), the following CSR activities have been accomplished for the month of May and June.
YOUTH DAY
In line with MVC’s commitment to youth education and development program, MVC sponsored, for the first time ever, a Youth Day activity for the residents of Barangay Buru-un last May 10, in partnership with their Sangguniang Kabataan (SK). The program aimed to hone the talents, skills and sense of camaraderie, planning and leadership of the youth.
Headed by SK Chairman, Mr. Jan Nikko N. Gerasta, the activities included were the Coastal Clean-up, Zumba Session, Laro ng Lahi (consisting of the Slipper Game, Tug of Peace, Luksong Tinik, Chinese Garter & Bring Me), Amazing Race and the competitions for singing & dancing.
MEDICAL MISSION
Free clinic and circumcision were provided to residents of Purok 1 and 2, Tonggo, Barangay Buru-un last May 19 in partnership with Adventist Medical Center – Iligan (AMCI). One hundred four (104) residents availed the free check-up and medicines, while forty-two (42) male kids bravely endured the circumcision procedure.
MVC supplied the medicines and paraphernalia, while volunteer doctors and nurses from AMCI offered their medical expertise.
SUMMER WORKSHOP
Kids from Purok 1 and Purok 2 of Sitio Tonggo, and Purok 13 of Timoga, Barangay Buru-un participated in the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Summer Workshop held at the MVC Training Room last May 18 (first session) and May 25 (second session).
Kids were taught on how to make a DIY Paper Bag on the first session and DIY Pencil Holder on the second session using recycled bottles and popsicle sticks.
FLORES DE MAYO
In coordination with the purok and church leaders of Purok 1 and 2, Sitio Tonggo, Barangay Buru-un, sixty-nine (69) kids religiously attended the Flores De Mayo activity held at their chapel, beginning May 10 up to its culmination on May 29. School supplies and snacks were distributed to the kids during the culmination activity, in addition to the sponsorship of stipend for the catechists and materials used for this activity.
BRIGADA ESKWELA
This year’s beneficiaries of the Brigada Eskwela program were Iligan City National School of Fisheries, Barangay Buru-un; Sardab Elementary School, Barangay Digkilaan (in participation of the Project Angel Tree, an initiative of the member companies of the Department of Labor and Employment – Federation of Family Welfare Committees); Ma. Cristina; Ditucalan Elementary School, Barangay Ditucalan; Napocor Elementary School, Barangay Ma. Cristina; Marcela T. Mabanta National High School, Kauswagan, Lanao Del Norte; Ubaldo D. Laya Memorial Central School, Barangay Ubaldo Laya; Francisco Paradela Memorial Elementary School, Taytay, Barangay Buru-un; Matampay Integrated School, Matungao, Lanao Del Norte; Tacub Elementary School, Kauswagan, Lanao Del Norte.
Activities include the repair and painting of classrooms as well as the donation of garden rakes, hand trowel, grass cutters, scythe, brooms, dust pans, and garbage bins.
This is a yearly activity of MVC in support of the Brigada Eskwela program of the Department of Education (DepEd) in preparing public school facilities for the opening of the school year in June.
MVC SCHOLARS
For this year, MVC extended its scholarship grant to Purok 1 and Purok 2 of Sitio Tonggo, in addition to the existing four scholars from Purok 13, Timoga, Barangay Buru-un. At present, a total of eight MVC scholars were given school supplies (which include notebooks, ball pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, sharpener, pad papers, water colors and colored papers), bags, school uniforms, shoes, socks, umbrella, raincoat and school fees.
Grade levels of said scholars are Grade 2 (one student), Grade 3 (one student), Grade 4 (two students), Grade 6 (two students), Grade 7 (one student) and Grade 20 (one student).
Funds used for this program came from My Voluntary Contribution (M.V.C.), a fund-raising program wherein MVC employees pledge any amount to be deducted from their salaries.
